Open & Closed Doors

When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door we do not see the one that has been opened for us. - Helen Keller

This quote can be translated in so many ways, but I'm going to try and keep it general. As people, we will be disappointed so many times in our lives. Every now and again there will be doors that get slammed in our faces. Rejection isn't the most pleasant thing to feel whether it be from a college you applied to, a job you really wanted, or even someone you've been interested in for a while.

It's obvious that life isn't fair. That's one reality we may not want to accept, but that's just the way it is. No matter how badly you want something and no matter how hard you work for it you may not always get it because that's just the way the ball rolls. Then, somehow, someway, another door full of new opportunities opens. We tend to sob or sulk over the door that slammed in our faces when we should be rejoicing about the one that opened.

Don't think of these doors only as opportunities, but people in your life. A lot of times, those people are people you care about, but not necessarily people who care about you. As those people walk out of your life and slam the door behind them, think of the people who may be knocking at another door, waiting for you to let them in.
